A Michelson interferometer, is an optical instrument that will split a light beam into two separate beams and will then send both beams along perpendicular paths, before bringing them back together. These devices are used to measure the varying speed of light in different mediums, precisely measure the exact position of an object, to break light up into a spectrum, for testing of optical components, and in Meteorology, to analyse wind and temperature patterns.
