A mode field adapter is a device designed to transfer a singlemode fiber light source to the LP01 mode of large mode area (LMA) and low order mode multimode fibers.

Mode field adaptors are highly efficient, giving a far superior performance than that of a an industry standard splice, whilst also reducing the risk for error and offering a time saving factor. Because of the lower losses achieved by Mode field adapters, higher power transmission is also seen over fiber splicing.
