An optical isolator allows the transmission of light in only one direction. i.e. this optical component will prevent unwanted light from returning back into an optical cavity. To relate to its function in Electrical terms, would be a similar to that of a diode, allowing current to only flow in only one direction. The main component of optical isolators is usually a Faraday rotator.
Optosun manufacture a complete range of narrowband, broadband and ultra-wideband fuse-based optical Isolator couplers and pump combiners offering high isolation and low insertion loss. There are various options, including Free space, Dual and single stage, Single mode or Multi mode, S,C and L band, Polarisation sensitive and independent. Our products are produced with either thin-film-filter- (TFF-) or fused bionical tapered- (FBT-) technology.
Typical applications include: Fiber Optic Lasers, Tunable Lasers, Optical Transmitters, WDMs, EDFA, Instrument Testing and others.
Our Isolators operate from the spectral ranges of 865 nm to beyond 2000 nm but we also have a full engineering facility to produce customer specials as required.
We also offer high power Isolators rated up to 20W, plus a range of Optical Hybrid isolators combined with Tap options, WDM and GFF gain-flattening filters.
Custom - Non Standard Optical Isolators
We can also produce bespoke isolators, which may require features such as smaller or larger aperture sizes, custom wavelength range, polarisation, custom package size etc. Also we can offer singlemode and multimode isolators that can be tuned to work optimally in different operating temperatures.
